Love Is...

Love is supposed to be a thrill ride.

You fasten your seatbelt, and speed to the park in hopes that today you’ll find that one roller coaster that rips your head back and shoves excitement and bliss down your throat.

The type of happiness you experience when two bodies collide under the stars and you don’t have to worry about anything more than rolling down the hill and losing grasp of the other.

The type of joy you get when your favorite team catches a Hail Mary and you throw your hands up to celebrate and you don’t even spill your beer.

The type of smile that pours out of your soul when the baby tiger cub reaches his furry paw out to fist bump your three year old daughter, and you watch her face light up like the streetlights in my old neighborhood at sunset.

Love is supposed to be a great movie.

The one where the guy finds that one girl he’d do anything to be with, including letting her have the floating door even when he’s freezing in the water.

Or the one where the woman keeps forgetting her husband, but he shows up every day to read her the story of their lives until she remembers, just for those passing minutes of clarity.

Or the smile you meet when a scene causes you to reminisce the same enchanted memory from your past, as you catch each other's gaze in the dark theater. You can see forever in that smile.

Love is supposed to be a great song.

Holding her in your arms while you dance as one entity, the music becoming montage of the wave of emotions racing through your mind as you get lost in the universe of her eyes.

The type of melody that sticks in your head and sends you strolling into work on Monday still whistling and saying good morning to your enemies.

Love is a lighter in the air, swaying back and forth like the tide.

You get down On Bended Knee, and tell her “The Way You Look Tonight, I Cant Help Falling In Love With You. This Power of Love, I Think I Wanna Marry You.”

I know what great love feels, looks, and sounds like.

Which is why I know I have yet to find it.

The first thing I acknowledge is pain. My ribs feel as if they've sustained a terrible impact, and the back of my head is throbbing. When I open my eyes, I notice the sky is full of smoke. Escape

I wake up to my right foot itching. I rub it on the sheet. The last thing I remember was the crash. Maria and I were riding our rented scooter through the Carpathian Mountains. Nearing dusk, we decided to head back down towards the villa. As we weaved our way downward, we were blinded by headlights coming around the bend. It was a narrow road, and the oncoming vehicle was enormous. I immediately ran out of asphalt, losing control. I think I remember telling my Maria to hold on. Even more foggy was the blurred sight of the two men dressed in blue helping me into the back of a white van. I lay in a mundane hospital bed with some redundant political crap airing on the television in a language I can't make out. Gray daylight seeps through the curtains of my window, providing the only light in the room other than the TV. The Little Ones
